DR DAVID BARNETT
Biography | Research Interests | Publications
1994-1999 Ph.D. (Elemental Speciation by Negative Ion Electrospray Mass Spectrometry) - University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta with Prof. Gary Horlick.
1989-1993 B.Sc. Chemistry (Major) - University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Dr. David Barnett received his bachelor degree in chemistry from the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton, NB) in 1993 and his PhD in analytical chemistry from the University of Alberta (Edmonton, AB) in 1999 with a specialization in mass spectrometry.
From 1998 until 2001 David was a researcher at the NRC Institute of National Measurement Standards in Ottawa, Ontario where he co-invented a mass spectrometry related technology called high-Field Asymmetric waveform Ion Mobility Spectrometry (abbreviated "FAIMS").
In 2001, David co-founded an instrumentation company called Ionalytics with three other scientists to commercialize the FAIMS technology. Ionalytics corporation was ultimately sold to Thermo-Fisher Scientific of San Jose, CA in 2005.
In the summer of 2006, the operations of what was formerly called Ionalytics were transferred to San Jose. Upon relocation of Ionalytics, David spent a few months learning about proteomics at the NRC Institute of Biological Scences in Ottawa and then joined the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute in the fall of 2007.
Dr. Barnett has 27 articles in peer-reviewed journals and a total of 16 issued patents on FAIMS technology.
